Surface Piercings

Surface piercings are ones in which the piercing both enters and exits the skin on the same horizontal plane. They are most often successful in low movement areas with little risk of accidental catch or snag.

Surface piercings may take upwards of a year to heal, and may be subject do occasional flare-up if traumatized even once healed. While the goal of every piercing is to be long-lasting, you should presume that surface piercings may have higher risks of failure.
